PM inaugurates elevated stretch of Dwarka Expressway in Haryana
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram, marking a significant milestone in transportation infrastructure. This newly inaugurated eight-lane elevated expressway is poised to address the persistent traffic congestion issues between Delhi and Gurugram.
Comprising two segments, spanning from the Delhi-Haryana border to Basai ROB (10.2 km) and from Basai ROB to Kherki Daula (Cloverleaf Interchange) (8.7 km), the expressway has been developed at an approximate cost of Rs 4,100 crore.
Key Highlights of the Dwarka Expressway:
- This expressway stands out as India's first elevated urban expressway, boasting eight lanes and innovative engineering solutions.
- Covering a total stretch of 19 kilometers, with 10 kilometers in Delhi and 19 kilometers in Haryana, it promises enhanced connectivity and smoother commute.
- Commencing from Shiv-Murti on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and terminating near the Kherki Daula Toll Plaza, the expressway traverses through strategic locations including Dwarka Sector 21 in Delhi and Basai in Gurugram.
- Notable features include four multi-level interchanges, an array of tunnels and underpasses, as well as an automated toll collection system.
- One of the most remarkable aspects is the construction of a single-pillar flyover spanning 9 kilometers, making it the first of its kind in the country.
- Additionally, the expressway boasts India's longest (3.6 kilometers) and widest (eight-lane) urban road tunnel, facilitating smoother traffic flow.
- Upon completion, it will offer direct access to the forthcoming India International Convention Centre (IICC) in Dwarka Sector 25 and serve as an alternate route to the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
- The project is equipped with advanced safety measures and an Efficient Transport System (ITS) to ensure seamless operations.
Scheduled in four stages, the construction of the expressway is a monumental endeavor, estimated to utilize substantial amounts of steel and concrete, underscoring its scale and significance in India's infrastructure landscape.
